Upgrading Databases

Upgrading to the latest version of On-Screen Takeoff may automatically upgrade open databases. Upgrading a database usually involves adding new tables, fields or other information to the database. This changes the database so that it is compatible with the new version of the software.

If a valid license for the installed version is not detected, the following error message will display:

You are not licensed for this version of On-Screen Takeoff and the database needs to be updated to work with this version. An update to the database cannot be undone. Are you sure you want to open and update the database.

Additional Information: Be sure you have recently authorized your application. If you are unsure how, see the Authorizing On-Screen Takeoff. If you are unsure whether or not you are authorized for this version, contact Support before proceeding.

CAUTION: Shared database users must coordinate any upgrade installation. Once one person upgrades a database, ALL OTHER USERS will be unable to access it until they install the upgrade.

To verify your licensing and/or to renew your Support and Upgrades Subscription, contact Support.

On Center Software recommends that you ensure you have a recent backup of all databases before installing upgrades to the program.

Additional Information: See 7.08 Backing up a Microsoft Access database for more information.

WARNING: If you are using an SQL database, please remember only the DBO (database owner) can perform the upgrade. Restricted users are unable to make the structural changes within the database necessary to upgrade. Performing an upgrade if you do not have sufficient rights may cause the database to become unusable.
