Hot Links and Named Views work together and provide an easy way to navigate through the project. A Hot Link is a shortcut to a Named View kind of like a bookmark. See the previous article for details on creating Named Views.

Creating a Hot Link

A Hot Link provides a shortcut to a Named Views. Hot Links work in the Image Window (where you drawn takeoff) and in the View Window (discussed in Related articles).

To create a Hot Link,

  • Click the Hot Link button the Hot Link annotation button is a red circle with a triangle inside pointing right
  • Click on the page to place the Hot Link (if you're working on a large plan, the Hot Link object may be very small) - the Select Named View dialog appears

In the Hot Link dialog box, click the drop-down to select a pre-existing Named View

In the Select Named View dialog box, you have two options,

  • Select an "existing Named View" - one you already created or,
  • "Create a new Named View" - this temporarily closes the Select Named View dialog box, switches to the Named View tool, and allows you to navigate anywhere in the bid to create a Named View. The link is placed where you were originally, you can click the On-Screen Takeoff Page Navigation Back Button (not previous page button) is a green arrow inside a circle, pointing to the left to return to that view. See the previous article for a refresher on creating a Named View.

Note

By default, On-Screen Takeoff opens Named Views in a separate View window. To open a Named View in main Image Window (where images/takeoff are displayed), click Tools > Options and uncheck the "Open hotlinks in separate View Window" button.

If you do not have a takeoff (tko, or OST) license (you are using PlanViewer or a DPC-Foreman only license), the 2nd View Window is disabled - you must uncheck the option to "Open hotlinks in separate View Window" or your Hot Links won't work.

Deleting a Hot Link

When you click on a Hot Link, you 'activate' it and open the Named View associated with it, therefore, to move or delete a Hot Link, you must draw a selection box (rope) around it to select it. See Related Articles for more information on selecting objects.

Once selected, you can move or delete the Hot Link. To delete it, press <Delete>, or right-click and select Delete.
