If material quantity is converted to "Containers" on the Sizing tab (see Related Articles), the material can be priced by "Container".

Note

You may be asking yourself, why all these conversions from SF to Unit to Container? Well, it's because of how you order Materials. You don't go to your Supplier and tell him, "I need 600 clips" (or fasteners, screws, etc.), you purchase these items by the Container.

For example, some objects are sold by the case or carton (Container), not by the tile or SF (Piece or UOM) (ceiling tiles, plywood clips, fasteners, etc.):

Starting on the Sizing tab, our Size is "No Sizes" and our Container is "Box" ("box", "case", "carton", etc. are just labels, and do not affect the actual calculations).

In the pricing grid, we indicate how many units (tiles, clips, fasteners) are each in container (carton), in this example, 500.

So, on the Material Pricing tab, we can price the Item by the Container (18.98 per container (box) which contains 500 clips).

Note how settings on the Sizing tab (Related Articles) affect the options available for Material Pricing. Sizing also affects how an Item's Labor can be priced...
