Units of Measurement (UOM)

On-Screen Takeoff can accommodate both Imperial and Système International (SI) (metric in the United States) Units of Measure (UOM). When a new database is created you will choose which measurement to use as default. All UOM boxes in the database will be based on this setting.

NOTE: By default, databases are created in Imperial Measure Mode.

NOTE: The roofing industry works with a unit called a Square which equals 10' x 10' or 100 SF. A roofer's Square is 100 SF. There is no metric equivalent in the roofing industry and a Square is usually considered an Imperial only unit. The metric equivalent of 1 SQ is 9.290304 SQ Meters.

Additional Information: When entering in height, the last two digits that you type will always calculate inches and will always convert to feet. For example: 824 is interpreted as 8 feet, 24 inches and displays 10' 0", 10 will be 10" and 1010 will be 10' 10".

To use Metric

To set your entire database to use Metric measurements, select Metric in the Database Properties (Access) dialog when creating the database.

All bids created in this database will use Metric measurements by default.

Metric may also be selected on a per-bid basis.

  1. Open the Cover Sheet for any bid and select the Preferences tab

  2. In the General field select Millimeters as your Base measurement - this sets THIS bid to use Metric measurements

Additional Information:  Metric measurements are entered in millimeters. For instance, a measurement of 8 meters, is entered as 8000.

WARNING: On-Screen Takeoff relies on specific number formatting in order to display quantities correctly. If you are using anything other than US-English for your Windows Regional Settings, please review this FAQ: 21.02.10 Metric Quantities not Displaying Correctly
