How do I takeoff joists using OST?

When taking off joists, should you use Counts, Linears, or Gridded Areas?

Discussion

That's a great question!

Depends on what you need.

  • Counts if they need to know how many of each length.
  • Gridded areas generally if they just need to know the linear foot of the total.
  • Linears can be taken off using Intelligent Paste.

Grid is possible, Count is possible, Linear and intelligent paste is possible for Wood.

For Steel, those are typically sent off to Steel Joist manufacturers, they would deliver them and we would just install them.

So to answer your question shortly, the answer is "D" All the above.

The takeoff is the same for both wood and steel, just a matter of how the plans look and variation of material used.
