Sometimes, after initially creating a project and adding Images (linking to images, actually) to the Cover Sheet, the location where the images are stored changes - the folder may be renamed, moved to a network location, or copied from a CD or Flash Drive to a local drive. This causes the 'link' that On-Screen Takeoff makes to that file to break and the image cannot be displayed.

Rotated Images
If an image cannot be located or displayed, existing takeoff is unaffected unless the image was rotated. On-Screen Takeoff does not store the takeoff with/on the image itself - the image is simply displayed in the program and the takeoff is performed with the image as a backdrop (like a transparency page). Takeoff is stored safely in the database and only a reference (or link) to the image file is stored. If the underlying page was rotated and is no longer available, takeoff adjusts back to the 'non-rotated' orientation if the Image is missing.

Missing Image Assistant

When you are on the Image Tab, if On-Screen Takeoff cannot locate the image files in the paths specified in the Cover Sheet, the Missing Image Assistant assists with restoring the links.

If you choose to Reestablish the link, a Browse for Folder dialog box opens.

Navigate to the folder where this image file is stored

Click OK

This reestablishes the links for any other Pages whose image files were stored in the same original folder. If the links for Pages stored in multiple folders are broken, use the processes in the next article to correct the links.

Caution
If you click Ignore on the Missing Image Assistant dialog box, you will still be able to see your takeoff and annotation, however they will be on a blank background and will be rotated back to 'normal' orientation (if the underlying image was rotated).
