Typical Takeoff is a time-saving feature of On-Screen Takeoff. It lets you take a little bit of takeoff and multiply it out. There are three methods of performing Typical Takeoff: Typical Areas, Typical Groups, and Typical/Repeating Pages. - Typical Areas are takeoff objects that repeat multiple times within several Bid areas. There is no takeoff actually associated with the Typical Areas except for where the Typical Area is defined (where one copy of the typical is taken off). All calculations are done behind the scenes and the totals are displayed on the Takeoff and Worksheet Tabs. Typical Areas are great for Bids where seeing actual typical takeoff is not necessary and only the final quantities matter (broken out by Bid Areas, if configured properly). Typical Areas are not used if you will be using Digital Production Control to manage your project in the field.
- Typical Groups are similar to Typical Areas - they are a group of takeoff objects that occur multiple times throughout a project. The difference is that actual takeoff can be shown where a Typical Group Marker is placed within the project. Typical Groups are created in the same way as Conditions and are also listed in the Conditions List and used like a Count Condition. When a Bid is 'flipped' into DPC Mode, the 'typical' takeoff become normal takeoff and can be viewed/percented in the field.
- Typical/Repeating Pages create Virtual Pages which are exact duplicates of the Typical Page. When using a Typical Page, the Virtual Pages are not visible in On-Screen Takeoff, they merely multiply the takeoff on the Typical Page so that you can break down takeoff by Area or Page on the Takeoff and Worksheet Tabs. Once a job is "flipped" into DPC mode, however the Virtual Pages show "real" takeoff that the field worker can percent.
NotesTypical Areas and Typical Groups/Repeating Pages cannot be used in the same bid - you must choose whether to use Typical Areas or Typical Groups/Repeating Pages when creating a bid. Typical Groups and Virtual Page takeoff is visible in Digital Production Control, Typical Areas are not (Typical Areas are a multiplier, they do not recreate the typical takeoff). If you are going to use Digital Production Control to track project progress, you must use Typical Group and Typical/Repeating Pages. Typical Takeoff results are shown on the Takeoff Tab (see Related articles).
