There are ten menus running across the top of the On-Screen Takeoff application window:

  • File - opening databases, printing, importing
  • Edit - copy-paste, delete, select, scale, and page naming
  • View - turn on/off various toolbars and dockbars, navigate pages, adjust zoom
  • Tools - various takeoff and annotations tools, takeoff mode options, and program options and user preferences
  • Image - adjust how the program displays your plans, select/adjust overlays, convert non-tiff plans to tiff
  • Bid - access the Cover Sheet, show bid and typical areas dialog boxes, renumber Conditions, refresh Excel or Quick Bid
  • Master - access various Master lists (reusable data sets)
  • Digitizer - configure a hard board or roll-up GTCO digitizer
  • Training - access training resources such as training videos, this user guide, and the "How Do I...?" request form
  • Help - access support resources such as this user guide, the Support and Feature Request forms, and program version info

Many menu options are repeated in the various toolbars. If a menu selection has an Icon (Picture) next to it - there is a toolbar button available for that command - toolbars are covered in the articles that follow.

On Screen Takeoff toolbar

Note
If you used a previous version of On-Screen Takeoff, you may be asking, "Where did the "Request a Feature", "Request Support", and "How Do I...?" buttons go?" Don't worry - we simply moved them to the Training and Help Menus, where they belong - we still value your feedback, suggestions, and look forward to providing outstanding Training and Technical Support!

The name of the current Bid and database always shows in the Title Bar of the application along with the name of the product, On-Screen Takeoff Pro (licensed) or On-Screen Takeoff PlanViewer (unlicensed).

The Image menu

The Image menu provides access to various Image manipulation tools. Images may be darkened, rotated, inverted and enhanced. There is also an option to convert images to TIFF format. Sometimes, files provided by an Architect can be of such complexity that rendering the image causes performance issues - converting these files to TIFF images is a great way to improve application performance. It is recommended to convert to tiff before drawing any takeoff, exporting a Bid, or sending a Bid via e-mail or Project Express.

ALT TEXT

Note
Adjusting image(s) in On-Screen Takeoff only affects the way the program displays the image(s), it does not actually edit the image file. However, when you resize or modify an Overlay, On-Screen Takeoff creates a copy of the original file and does save changes to that copy.
