Invalid Printer Causes Slow Performance in On-Screen Takeoff, Quick Bid, and Digital Production Control - OST QB DPC

Symptoms

Generating Quick Bid Reports takes 30 seconds or more for a single report, or

Clicking the Image Tab in On-Screen Takeoff or Digital Production Control takes 15 seconds or more to show the preview of a single Page.

Discussion

During initialization of the Image Tab and generation of Reports, the programs are polling the default printer to determine certain parameters (so that it can show you printer options available). If this is a printer that has been removed from the machine or is not currently connected (such as a network printer) the programs will take 15 - 30 seconds or longer to perform tasks such as opening the Image Tab or previewing a report.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, set a valid, connected printer as the default in Windows Control Panel (you can set Microsoft Print to PDF as the default for convenience sake).

If the problem persists in On-Screen Takeoff, you may need to delete the following registry keys:
