Reassociating Image Files
On-Screen Takeoff does not actually store your image files (plans) within a project, only a reference (link) to the image files. It merely makes note of the location and name of the plans and stores that information in your project. If those plan images are deleted, renamed or moved, On-Screen Takeoff will no longer be able to display the image behind your takeoff. This article illustrates how to reestablish a link to those images (assuming that the images have not been deleted).
In the first example, when added to the project the images were originally stored on the user's hard drive. After the job was started those image files were moved from a user’s local hard drive (C:) to a server drive.
Open the Cover Sheet, note that the Image File (the actually names of the image files) are displayed in Red, that means that On-Screen Takeoff cannot locate the files.
Currently, based on the Image Folder, On-Screen Takeoff is expecting to find these image files at C:\OCS Documents\OST\Edwards. When those plans are moved to any other location, you have to let the program know where those files are now located.
If only the NAMES of your image files are listed in the Image File column, you can simply change the Image Folder location.
- To change the location, click the Lookup Image Folder icon
to the right of the Image Folder location
- Browse to the location where the plans were moved and click OK
- Click OK to close the Cover Sheet and you should see your plans again
If you have plans stored in multiple folders, you may have folder/path information in addition to the file name in the Image File column like the example below.
You will use the Change Folder button to set the folder location for each page. You can select multiple pages by holding the <Shift> or <Ctrl> keys.
![]() |
NOTE: For pages that just show the image name (like A03.cal in the example), follow the steps above to change the Image Folder first, then change any pages that show the entire path and file name (like Page 5 in the example). |
Once you have the pages selected click the Change Folder button (shown above with a red outline). This opens the Change Folder dialog box.
Click the Lookup button and browse to the new folder where your images are stored and click OK, then Change.
The image path will be updated on your Cover Sheet and the image names should turn black to indicate the On-Screen Takeoff can find the files again. You may need to repeat this for other files that are stored in different folders.
