Including a Manufacturer in an Item setup can help you keep track of material pricing and ordering.
Manufacturers should not be confused with Suppliers. Suppliers are a Contact (with a Contact Type = "Supplier") - they are the dealer who sells and deliveries the building components. You can send eQuotes (covered in Chapter 7) to Suppliers (see the previous article, Contacts and Contact Types). Manufacturers are listed in their own Master Table; they are the entity that manufactures a building component. An Item is associated with one Manufacturer, but often multiple Suppliers.
Add a new Manufacturer
Click Master > Manufacturer - the Material Manufacturers (Master) dialog opens (this list can also be accessed from the Item Detail dialog by typing in a Manufacturer that does not already exist in the database).
Click New - a blank line displays.
Enter the name of the new Manufacturer.
Click OK.
Assign a Manufacturer on the Item Detail, General tab.
