When you install a new version of Quick Bid, you will usually be required to upgrade any open databases. Upgrading a database usually involves adding new tables, fields, or other information to the database. This changes the structure of the database so that it is compatible only with the new version of the software. You will be prompted to update EACH databases open when you first launch Quick Bid after installing the upgrade. Once a database is upgraded to the new version it cannot be accessed by previous versions of the software.
Verify your Activation Code supports the version of the On-Screen Takeoff you intend to install BEFORE upgrading any databases. See Check License Before Installing An Upgrade BEFORE installing any upgrade.
If you are unsure whether or not you are authorized for this version, contact Technical Support before proceeding. Once upgraded, a database CANNOT be opened in older versions of the software. Upgrading a database CANNOT be undone or reversed. A backup copy of the database IS made before the database is upgraded but if you open/close Quick Bid multiple times, that backup may be overwritten depending on your Backup settings.
On Center Software recommends making an ARCHIVE copy of all databases (meaning, copying your "Backup" folder to a safe place) before upgrading any databases. Please contact your network administrator or IT person for assistance with safeguarding your databases PRIOR to installing any program updates.
If you and your coworkers share an SQL database, all users must coordinate before anyone installs an upgrade SQL databases can only be updated by the DBO (database owner). Other users (even Administrators) may not be able to make the structural changes within the database necessary to upgrade. Performing an upgrade without sufficient rights may cause the database to become unusable. The SQL Administrator must ensure a full backup of the database is performed before upgrading. Quick Bid CANNOT BACKUP UP SQL DATABASES before attempting to upgrade them.
