When accessing the Supervision tab from the Indirect Expenses dialog, you are accessing bid related supervision costs. You can directly enter supervision costs based on labor costs, hours or duration.
Calculating Supervision
When Labor Cost or Labor Hours is set for the Calculation Method, the Expense List is utilized for calculating Supervision. The following is a list of areas that can be found in the Supervision tab depending on the type of Calculation Method and Review Results as options you have selected. A third Calculation Method option is Duration.
This list does not reflect the Duration calculation method. Duration is calculated separately and described later in this section.
Payroll Class is taken from the base bid.
Cost calculates how much it costs to supervise a job based on the cost of labor in that job. Cost is available when the Calculation Method is set to Labor Cost.
Hours calculates how much it costs to supervise a job based on the number of hours of labor in that job. Hours is available when the Calculation Method is set to Labor Hours.
Percent calculates the percentage of Hours for the bid when the Calculation Method is set to Labor Hours. It calculates the percentage of Cost when the Calculation Method is set to Labor Cost.
Total Cost displays the total cost of Labor based on the Cost of labor multiplied by the Percentage of labor used (Cost x Percent = Total Cost). Total Cost is available when the Calculation Method is set to Labor Cost.
Total Hours displays the total Hours multiplied by the Percent of hours used (Hours x Percent= Total Hours). Total Hours is available when the Calculation Method is set to Labor Hours.
Supervisor is
available once a value is placed in the Percent
column. You can find a Supervisor
by clicking the Lookup tool .
The Payroll Class
List dialog appears and you can select a Supervisor
from this list.
Wage Type allows you to choose between Union, Open or Sub. A drop down menu is available only when a value is added to the Percent column.
Cost Code displays the Cost Code used for stocking the Material Cost Code.
Labor Cost calculates how much it costs to supervise the job based on the cost of the labor in the job.
Labor Hours calculates how much it costs to supervise the job based on the hours of labor required for the job.
Duration allows the estimator to evaluate supervision costs based upon total labor hours and an estimated crew size.
The Installers area lists all Payroll Classes, Wage Type combinations used in either Section or Bid Mode and the total number of Days (Total Estimated Time (days) ÷ Crew Size = Total Duration (days)).
You can include the Supervision cost by clicking the box in the Select column next to the Payroll Classes column.
If you only want to pick one or more Payroll Classes that are not in a continuous list, click each box in the Select column.
Click if you wish to select the entire list.
Click if you wish to de-select the entire list.
Total estimated time (days) displays the total man days from the Installer List.
Total duration (days) displays the total estimated time (days) divided by the Crew Size (Total estimated time ÷ Crew Size = Total Duration).
The Crew Size area allows you to indicate the size of the crew to be supervised.
The Supervisors area assigned supervisors to the project.
When a Payroll Class is selected, the Wage Type and Total Wages columns are populated from what has been established in the Payroll tab.
You will assign the Cost Code to each Supervisor listed. The Cost Code will all default to the same.

to delete selected lines in the Supervisors
List.
The Total Supervision Cost located under the Total Wages column in the Supervisor area will also be displayed on the Markup Detail dialog for Supervision Cost in the Labor column.
