Typical Group Frames

Once you define the Properties of your Typical Group, you will be presented with a prompt to draw the Typical Group Frame.

A Typical Group Frame surrounds selected takeoff and defines the Typical Group. All the takeoff within the Typical Group Frame becomes part of the Typical Group. When takeoff is framed, the quantities of the takeoff inside the frame are removed from the Condition quantities in the Conditions List. These quantities will be added back into the Project Totals as you place Typical Group Markers in the project.

NOTE: Takeoff contained within a Typical Group Frame is not included with takeoff totals - only once a marker is placed are condition quantity totals affected.

Creating a Typical Group Frame

  1. Click the Typical Group in the Conditions List once to select

  2. Move your cursor into the Image Window, position it by the takeoff you wish to Frame (group)

  3. Click and hold down the left mouse button and rope the desired takeoff

  4. A Frame appears around the roped takeoff

NOTES:

Like takeoff performed using Conditions, the Typical Group Frame will be the same color as its associated Typical Group in the Conditions Properties.

The name of the Typical Group will appear in the Name Panel located at the bottom of the newly created Frame. If the name of the Typical Group is changed, the Frame name also updates.

There is no quantity total for the Typical Group as no Typical Markers have been placed, yet. The quantity totals, for the Conditions, update to reflect the removal of all the takeoff objects within the Typical Group Frame.

Only one Typical Group Frame per Typical Group is possible (you cannot draw multiple frames using the same Typical Group).

How Conditions List Quantities are Affected

When Typical Group Frames are drawn around takeoff, the quantities of the affected Conditions update. The amount of the takeoff located within the Typical Group Frame is removed from the quantity for each Condition.

For example, prior to adding a Typical Group Frame to the bid, note the quantities in the Conditions List.

When Frame TG 1 is created, note the updated quantities in the Conditions List.

Typical Group Frame, TG 1, now encloses some takeoff for Ceiling 2' x 2' ACT and Lights 2' x 2'. The amount of takeoff for each of these conditions within the Typical Group are removed from the Condition quantities in the Conditions List. Notice that Qty 1 for TG 1 is zero - this is because no markers are used, yet. Typical Group quantities increase by 1 for each Typical Group Marker that is placed.

Additional Information: See Typical Group Markers for more information.

NOTE:

Takeoff quantities are added back into the original Condition quantities when:

  • Takeoff objects are moved out of the Frame, or
  • The Typical Group Frame is deleted, or
  • A Typical Group Marker is placed

Frames Intersecting Takeoff

While it is not mandatory to completely encompass all of the takeoff when creating a Typical Group Frame, it is suggested. If you draw a Typical Group Frame and it partially includes takeoff objects, a warning banner will be displayed and any takeoff touching a Typical Frame Marker will be considered included in the Typical Group.

CAUTION: EXCEPTION: Attachment and Count items. For Count items and Attachments, if the center reference point is included inside the frame, then the object is included in the Typical Group, see details below.

This example shows the same item outside of the typical group, notice the Condition Quantity.

For Attachments, if the center point of the actual object is within the Typical Group, the object will be considered included. For something like a door, this doesn't include the 'sweep indicator' - only the actual opening:

Frames Overlapping Frames

Overlapping one or more Typical Group Frames is not recommended. Although you CAN overlay Typical Group Frames, doing so will cause unpredictable calculation results.

CAUTION: There is no set list of what these 'unpredictable' calculation results are. Each change made to overlapping frames can result in unexpected results. You should not overlap Typical Group Frames.

Resizing, Moving and Deleting Typical Group Frames

Resizing a Typical Group Frame

You can enlarge or decrease the size of a Typical Group Frame by:

The change in size of the Frame does not affect the quantity (Count) of the Typical Group in the Conditions List, but may affect the quantities of the Conditions that have takeoff contained within the Frame if resizing the Frame caused takeoff to become included or excluded within the frame.

Moving a Typical Group Frame

Moving a Typical Group Frame only (not including the takeoff objects inside the frame)

A Frame can be moved to include or exclude pieces of takeoff. The Conditions List quantities will update to reduce or increase based on takeoff objects included in the frame.

  1. Click the name panel on the Frame to select it

  2. Click and hold down the left mouse button on the Name Panel

  3. Drag the Frame to the new location

  4. Release the mouse button

Moving a Typical Group Frame and all takeoff objects inside the frame.

An entire Frame and its takeoff can be moved to any location in the Image Window by roping it:

  1. Click and hold down the left mouse button and rope the entire Frame and all takeoff contained within or touching

  2. Release the mouse button - The borders of the frame will BOLD and the takeoff will be highlighted in yellow to verify that it has been selected

  3. Click and hold down the left mouse button on either the Frame or a piece of takeoff

  4. Drag the grouping to its new location and release the mouse button

  5. Click anywhere in the Image window to deselect the grouping

Deleting a Typical Group Frame

Deleting a Typical Group Frame only (not including the takeoff objects inside the frame)

A Frame can be deleted leaving the original takeoff intact. The Conditions List quantities will increase based on takeoff objects that were included in the frame.

  1. Click the name panel on the Frame to select it

  2. Click or press the <Delete> button on your keyboard

Deleting a Typical Group Frame and all takeoff objects inside the frame.

An entire Frame and its takeoff can be deleted by roping it the frame:

  1. Click and hold down the left mouse button and rope the entire Frame and all takeoff contained within or touching

  2. Release the mouse button. The borders of the frame will BOLD and the takeoff will be highlighted in yellow to verify that it has been selected

  3. Click or press the <Delete> button on your keyboard

NOTE: If you are using Inclusive Roping method, you will need to include all takeoff objects within your selection. If you use Touching Roping Method, you simply need to select the entire Frame - all takeoff objects will automatically be selected.
